Why the effect works
X creates smaller feed thumbnails from uploaded pictures. A fine checkerboard of transparent and solid pixels becomes averaged against the timeline background, so hidden areas look pale. When the original opens on a dark viewer, the same pixel pattern visually recombines into a detailed image.
Use high-contrast artwork, portraits, or a clear before/after concept. Add a short caption such as “Tap and hold to reveal,” and test one post before publishing a thread because client behavior can change.
