How to make a Tap Hold image

The practical workflow that avoids the most common X compression failures.

  1. 1

    Upload

Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP image up to 40MB. It stays in your browser.

  2. 2

    Choose the reveal

Keep the automatic result or brush the parts that should remain visible in the X feed.

  3. 3

    Export PNG8

Preview the before/after result and download an X-ready indexed PNG.

Create your tap to reveal image

Built for reliable X reveals

More than a generic transparency tool: every control is designed around timeline thumbnails.

Start in about 10 seconds

Upload, preview, and export without creating an account or learning a complex editor.

True PNG8 output

Indexed-color export preserves the transparency pattern that creates the reveal effect on X.

Before/after preview

Compare the timeline thumbnail with the opened image before publishing.

Private browser processing

Your image is processed locally and is never uploaded to our servers.

Precision controls

Brush, erase, undo, redo, edge hints, brightness correction, and X-oriented size presets.

No watermark

Download the finished image free, without branding added to your artwork.

Why the effect works

X creates smaller feed thumbnails from uploaded pictures. A fine checkerboard of transparent and solid pixels becomes averaged against the timeline background, so hidden areas look pale. When the original opens on a dark viewer, the same pixel pattern visually recombines into a detailed image.

Use high-contrast artwork, portraits, or a clear before/after concept. Add a short caption such as “Tap and hold to reveal,” and test one post before publishing a thread because client behavior can change.
